This is the slogan we have chosen at Mensajeros de la Paz on the occasion of March 8th, International Women’s Day 2023.
Mensajeros de la Paz wants to unite on a day like today, gratefully remembering the history of feminism. We extend our recognition to all those who were trailblazers, women who raised their voices against the oppression of a patriarchal culture, and also to those who, in silent ways, through their everyday gestures, have made possible so many achievements in rights: social, professional, cultural, and economic fighting against our discrimination.
Thank you because without all of you, we would not be the empowered women of today, nor would the women of the future be.
We want to continue living in a society that strives for definitive equality between men and women. That is why we believe that feminism must be a part of public discourse in a society that normalizes shared responsibility in organizing, caregiving, education, and affection for all individuals. It’s not a gender-specific issue; it’s an obligation for everyone.
We will continue working against the structural inequalities that women face simply because of their gender, such as the gender pay gap. According to the National Institute of Statistics, in their latest report in 2020, the most common annual salary for women represented 73.2% of the most common salary for men. We will also keep fighting for an education system that doesn’t perpetuate gender roles.
As an NGO with projects in 75 countries, we will never stop working for women’s rights worldwide. Moreover, this year the United Nations invites us to reflect on the technology gap: according to the Gender Snapshot 2022 report by UN Women, excluding women from the digital world has cut 1 trillion dollars from the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of low and middle-income countries over the last decade, a loss that will increase to 1.5 trillion dollars in 2025 if no action is taken.
Especially on this occasion, we promote digital education that does not perpetuate current gender inequality dynamics through technology, creating a digital divide that leaves women, especially in more vulnerable countries, where inequalities are extreme, behind.
Feminism is the only alternative to confront these challenges. At Mensajeros de la Paz, we will keep working “together for a better world”.
