With deep sorrow, we at Mensajeros de la Paz mourn the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis, a spiritual guide and moral beacon of our time. His departure leaves an immense void in the Catholic Church and in the hearts of those who, like us, shared his commitment to the most vulnerable.
Pope Francis was a steadfast advocate for the underprivileged, dedicating his pontificate to social justice and human dignity. His support for our mission was constant and generous, encouraging us to keep the doors of our churches open 24 hours a day to welcome everyone, especially those in greatest need.
The Church of San Antón itself, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, was born inspired by his call for churches to become “field hospitals,” open to human suffering and exclusion. That vision profoundly shaped our path and transformed the way we live the Gospel.
Our president, Father Ángel, is deeply affected by this loss. He has expressed his sorrow at the passing of a friend and shepherd who always stood by the most vulnerable. He maintained a close and affectionate relationship with the Holy Father. They shared memorable encounters, such as the private audience in December 2022, during which the Pope encouraged him to “keep dreaming” despite his age. On another occasion, Father Ángel visited the Vatican with 50 homeless individuals, and the Pope offered words that remain engraved in our hearts: “Carry on, Ángel. They truly are the flesh of Christ.”
May his example inspire us to continue building a more just and compassionate world.
Rest in peace, Pope Francis.
