On Monday afternoon, we experienced a very special moment at the Church of San Antón. At 8:00 p.m., we began with a Mass and this led to the blessing and presentation of a work that has become part of the soul of this place: Resurrectio, a monumental sculpture by the master Víctor Ochoa.
This piece, which was previously part of the exhibition ¨Las Edades del Hombre¨, represents something unique in sacred art: the exact moment of Christ’s resurrection. At over two meters tall, it seems suspended between the human and the divine, and is moving with its power, beauty, and message.
During the presentation, Víctor shared some words that touched our hearts:
“In Resurrectio, I wanted to materialize Jesus’ transition from death to life, from human to Divine Being, crossing the abyss between the earthly and the eternal, to show in sculpture that unrecognizable and glorified moment in which love transcends death.”
When he told Father Ángel he wanted this work to be in San Antón, he was deeply moved. The resurrected Christ is rarely depicted, and this sculpture is, without a doubt, one of the purest representations of hope he has ever seen. In a world marked by pain and war, we need symbols of peace like this more than ever.
Víctor also explained why he chose our church:
“The Church of San Antón is a refuge where the hunger of both body and soul is soothed for those who suffer most. I trust that Resurrectio will be a beacon of peace and hope, a silent embrace that accompanies and strengthens each person in these moments of need and struggle.”
The sculpture will remain on continuous display in San Antón for the next few months. We invite everyone to come, contemplate it, and be touched by its message. As María told us: “I’ve never seen anything like this. It’s as if the marble breathes. I was very impressed.”
“At Mensajeros de la Paz, we continue to believe that art, faith, and solidarity can work hand in hand to transform lives. And Resurrectio is, without a doubt, a living example of this,” said Father Ángel.
