Father Ángel and a team from Mensajeros de la Paz have traveled to Jordan to consolidate and expand the cooperation alliances we have maintained in the region for years. Our agenda included institutional meetings, visits to humanitarian projects, and outreach to areas of vulnerability.
The central visit of the day was to a hospital caring for refugee families from Gaza, where several children are receiving medical treatment. The situation of these families who have fled the conflict has been described as critical, and we are working to channel direct and sustained aid. One of the most impactful cases was that of a young girl in urgent need of open-heart surgery, who arrived accompanied by her mother and several siblings. All the children were suffering from severe malnutrition and various infections, requiring immediate medical attention — including the mother, who also showed signs of physical and psychological deterioration. This case was one of the most moving, reflecting the harsh reality faced by the Palestinian civilian population.
Another key moment was our visit to the border with the West Bank, where we are collaborating with Catholic groups facilitating the passage of food into Gaza. This humanitarian action is carried out under extremely difficult conditions, but it is vital to reach the civilian population trapped in the Strip.
“As the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem has already said: in the name of our God, ‘God of all,’ I ask the world’s leaders for MERCY for the people of Gaza. No more deaths, no more pain, no more malnourished children on the brink of death,” declared Father Ángel from the border with the West Bank.
We also took advantage of our stay to carry out other key visits. One of the most relevant institutional moments was the meeting at the Spanish Embassy in Jordan, where we explored new avenues of collaboration to strengthen the projects we are developing in the country, especially those aimed at refugee populations.
We also visited a safe house for women victims of gender-based violence, where we spoke with local leaders and sought to open new channels of support for their work.
Our headquarters in Jordan, managed entirely by local staff, continues to be a cornerstone of our work in the Middle East. Among our projects is a school for displaced Iraqi refugee children.
In this way, we reaffirm our commitment to peace, social justice, and care for the most vulnerable in a region marked by conflict and forced displacement.
